This site is dedicated to the memory of Lili Backhouse.

In memory of our little Lili Jane Backhouse taken from this world on the 9th January 2011 at only 23 months, so quick and sudden. To help in the fight to find a vaccine. forever in our hearts.

Lili had flu a week before meningitis appeared. She had made a complete recovery and was running around they day before she fell ill. She was a bright child, quick to learn new things and extremely fast on her feet. She had a wicked laugh and a great sense of fun even though she was only 23 months old.

Lili had gone to bed refusing her milk for the first time, during the night she started moaning which I put down to an ice-cream belly ache as she has pollished off a whole bowl during a meal out the evening before.

In the morning she was unresponsive and very grey, we called for an ambulance and was told the reason she was unresponsive was due to a temperature. As she was very grey I didn't think to check her temperature as she didn't look or feel hot. She was given capol in the ambulance.

She was taken to hospital where only her temperature was taken and she was not physically examined. We were told by a Doctor in the paediatric department that she had a vomiting bug, although she had only been sick at the hospital following a dose of nurofen. We have since found out that the Doctor was not a paediatrician but an out of hours GP.

We took her home after only approximately half an hour at the hospital At 2:30pm we noticed a bruise on her check when she woke for a drink, We stripped her off to see a non-blanching rash all over her body and rushed her back to the hospital.

We rushed her back to the hospital, but her veins had collapsed, she was still talking telling the doctors bye bye. But she lost her fight for life at 6:29pm.

At 7:30pm Lukas, Lili twin brother was bought in with the same initial symptoms. He was treated early enough to survive.

There is not a day that goes by that we do not think of our beautiful daughter and Lukas constantly mentions her, remembering the last days of them playing in the snow together.
